The University of Alabama head men’s track and field coach Harvey Glance will get a chance to see how far his young team has come this season and how well they perform under tremendous amounts of pressure as the Crimson Tide travels to the Tyson Invite in Fayetteville, Arkansas this weekend.
“This will be an important meet this weekend because we’re only two weeks out from the SEC Championships and the caliber of this meet is amazing,” said Glance. “It will feature world-class competition and will give us a chance to test our youth against several potential Olympians.”
Joining Alabama from the SEC will be host school and top ranked Arkansas, second ranked Auburn, sixth ranked Florida and 22nd ranked Ole Miss.
So far this season, the Tide has seen 13 athletes post 16 personal best marks and seven times or marks that rank in the Top 10 in Alabama track and field history.
As well as his team has done thus far, Glance believes this will be a very telling meet for his young team.
“We’ll learn a lot about our team this weekend. They’re going to have their poise and their character tested this because of the amount of talent involved in this meet,” said Glance. “I try and tell them to eliminate the big picture and instead focus on challenging their own PRs instead of the other athletes and if they succeed in doing that the rest will take care of itself.”
The meet is scheduled to kickoff at 10:30 a.m. Friday morning and will continue on through Saturday.
