The University of Alabama men’s track and field team has announced the signing of Shae Murray and Jason Dixon for the 2006 season.
Murray, a native of Spokane, Washington, will throw javelin for Alabama. He is a transfer from Spokane Falls Community College where he was an NWAACC All-America while throwing a personal best of 225’00” in the javelin.
“Shae will be an immediate impact on our team,” said Alabama head coach Harvey Glance. “He’s an athlete that I believe will challenge for a conference title in the javelin. His marks last year at Spokane were good enough for qualifying at the NCAA Regional and National Championship meets.”
Dixon, who also competed at Spokane Community College where he too was an NWAACC All-America, will compete in discus and the shot put. His personal bests are 174’6.00” in the discus and 54’00” in the shot put. He will also throw the hammer and indoor weight.
“Jason is a multi-throw guy who will bring instant success to our team,” said Glance. “I think it’s a tremendous asset when you have the flexibility to be versatile and compete in four different events which is what he brings to the table.”
Murray and Dixon will join the Tide in the fall of 2005 and will be eligible to compete in the 2006 season.
