TUSCALOOSA - With the Southeastern Conference season heading into its final two weeks of play, the University of Alabama volleyball team hosts a pair of important divisional matches this weekend when Ole Miss and Mississippi State visit the CAVE.
Alabama (16-7, 6-6 SEC) is currently in second place in the SEC West and could lock up a spot in the league's postseason tournament with a pair of wins this weekend. The Tide has already solidified a seventh straight winning season and needs just two more league victories to make it six-in-a-row winning marks in SEC play.
The Tide enters this weekend's tilts looking to snap a two-match losing skid. Alabama has won 22 consecutive meetings with the Lady Rebels and Bulldogs having defeated each of them 11 straight times including wins in Oxford and Starkville, Miss., earlier this season.
Ole Miss brings a 10-14 (2-10 SEC) record into Friday's 7 p.m. match-up with the Tide. The Lady Rebels have lost four in a row and need several wins over their final four matches to earn a spot in the SEC Tournament. Fans attending Friday's match will have an opportunity to have their picture made with Big Al and the Alabama Cheerleaders.
Mississippi State (13-13, 4-8 SEC) is also battling for one of the final spots in the SEC Tournament field. The Bulldogs, who lead the SEC in service aces, are scheduled to play at Auburn on Friday night before taking on Alabama on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. The first 100 fans through the door for the MSU match will receive a free cup of frozen yogurt from TCBY. WVUA 90.7 FM will be broadcasting the UA-MSU match live on the radio.
As part of the Beat Auburn-Beat Hunger Food Drive, fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food item donations to all of the remaining Alabama volleyball matches. There will be a collection bin at the door of the CAVE.
Fans are also reminded that due to construction on Coleman Coliseum, parking for this weekend's volleyball matches is very limited. Space for Friday night's match is available in front of the Coliseum as well as in the lot on Bryant Drive and along the fence by the track stadium on Hackberry Lane. On Sunday, the main coliseum parking lot will also be available.
All Alabama home volleyball matches feature free admission and can be followed along on the internet via live stats at www.rolltide.com.
