Jessica Yearout is in her first season of play with the Alabama Volleyball team. A junior from St. Maries, Idaho, Jessica transferred to Bama from the University of Idaho over the summer. Jessica has been the Tide’s starting libero in every match this season. She ranks among the Top 10 in the SEC for digs per game and earlier this season she recorded her 1,000th career dig. With her dig total from UI, Jessica has already climbed to third all-time for career digs at Alabama.
Jessica and her teammates conclude the regular scheduled portion of their slate this weekend at the SEC/C-USA Challenge in Baton Rouge, La. Alabama will play Houston at 5 p.m. on Friday before battling Tulane at 5 p.m. on Saturday. The Crimson Tide also holds out hope of hearing their name called at 5:45 p.m. on Sunday to participate in the NCAA Championship Tournament.
What’s your favorite thing about the University of Alabama?
“The thing I like the most is how people drive really bad. They don’t watch for pedestrians and I have almost been hit several times walking to class.”
At the mall, do you prefer shopping or people-watching?
“People watching.”
What do you think is the key thing to digging a volleyball?
“I guess I’d say to make sure and have a solid platform that points to the target.”
Being an Idaho native (home of the World’s Best Potato), How many ways have you eaten potatoes and what is your favorite way to fix them?
“I think I’ve probably eaten them about 5 different ways and my favorite is ‘Cheesy Potatoes’, which is just mashed potatoes with cheese.”
What is your favorite thing to do away from volleyball?
“Play my guitar.”
If you could have any job for one day, what would it be and why?
“I’d want to be a traffic cop in Tuscaloosa stationed on campus on the corner of the Quad. I think it would be cool to wear the yellow vest and carry the small ‘Stop’ sign.”
What channel rules your TV set?
“Game Show Network.”
What is your favorite thing your mom cooks?
“Grouse with mashed potatoes and gravy and corn-on-the-cob.”
What 3 people (dead or alive) would you invite to a dinner party?
“Reggie Miller, Jeff Barem and Crystal Hudson.”
Something few people know about me is...
“I am a mean ping-pong player.”
