TUSCALOOSA – University of Alabama senior volleyball players Erin Heffner and Kory Tull were both named CoSIDA Academic All-District IV second-team honorees for their work in the classroom.
The all-district team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or key reserve and carry a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within their district.
Heffner, a 6-0 outside hitter from Ft. Wayne, Ind., owns a 3.45 GPA in Criminal Justice at Alabama. Already the Tide’s all-time leader in kills, she is just one kill shy of becoming only the third SEC player in history to record over 2,000 kills in a career. An All-American candidate this year, Heffner leads the SEC and ranks seventh in the country for kills per game.

Tull, a 5-10 native of Lafayette, Ind., garnered the honor after posting a 3.86 GPA in Art. A team co-captain with Heffner, she earned the Alabama team’s Academic Excellence award last year and is also a two-time member of the SEC’s “Good Works” team for her efforts in community service.
“This award is just another reflection of the type of student-athletes we try to recruit at Alabama,” said UA head coach Judy Green, who has now coached 11 CoSIDA Academic All-District selections in her 19-year career. “Erin and Kory are both very focused, determined and driven athletes on the court and students in the classroom. I am very proud of the success and honor they have brought to this volleyball program both on and off the court.”
The Bama senior duo, along with fellow senior Julie Farley, is set to play their final home match on Sunday afternoon in the CAVE at 1:30 p.m. versus Kentucky. Following the competition, the Tide seniors will be honored with a reception open to the public.
