TUSCALOOSA - A hungry and determined Alabama Volleyball team returned to the court on Friday night and snapped a two-match losing skid with an impressive 3-0 (30-23, 30-17, 30-25) sweep over LSU in the CAVE.
The Tide, looking to rebound after dropping a pair of SEC matches last weekend, got back on the winning track in the first of four home matches by totally controlling play against the Tigers. Bama led in nearly every statistical category including forcing LSU into a dismal .088 hitting performance.
With the win, Alabama improves to 13-3 overall and 3-2 in the SEC while LSU falls to 9-6 and 1-4. UA is now a perfect 7-0 at home this season.
"I am extremely pleased with how we responded after last week," said UA head coach Judy Green. "I saw a very different team on the floor tonight. One that was focused, determined and that executed the game plan very well. I thought we did a great job of using our serve to keep them out of system and we also had a very balanced offensive game."
A trio of Tide players finished with double-digit kills led by seniors Erin Heffner and Julie Farley with 13 each. Freshman Crystal Hudson tallied 10 in the victory. As a team, Alabama hit .267 with Farley recording an amazing .722 performance including no hitting errors in 18 attempts.
On defense, Bama recorded seven team blocks led by five from Farley while junior Kelley Potter topped the back row with 10 digs. Potter also paced the Tide serving attack with three of the squad's seven aces.
The Tide concludes its weekend of home SEC action on Sunday afternoon with a tilt against pre-season SEC Western Division favorite Arkansas at 1:30 p.m. in the CAVE. The first 100 fans through the door will receive a free cup of TCBY Frozen Yogurt.
