The University of Alabama will officially dedicate the newly constructed Alabama Tennis Complex in a ceremony Thursday night at 7 p.m.
The new tennis complex was constructed with the help of the Crimson Tradition Fund and is part of the University’s athletic facilities upgrade. The complex features 12 lighted courts and seating for close to 1,000 spectators.
The playing surface is a special treat for all players. Deco-turf is a softer and more forgiving playing surface than what is generally used in collegiate tennis. Deco-turf is the surface of choice at the U.S. Open. Alabama is the first program in the Southeastern Conference to use it.
This weekend the Alabama men’s tennis team will host its first tournament in its new home. The Crimson Tide Fall Championships will be played from Friday, October 29 to Sunday, October 31. Last weekend the women’s team hosted the Wilson/ITA Southern Regional Championships and in April of 2005 the women’s SEC Tournament will come to the Alabama Tennis Complex.
