Alabama’s doubles team of Luigi D’Agord and Eric Molnar won twice at the ITA Southeast Regional in Memphis, Tenn. on Saturday to advance to the quarterfinals.
D’Agord and Molnar, seeded ninth in the tournament, earned a big victory over Southeastern Conference foes Robert Lathouwers and Alex Schweizer of Auburn, 8-5. D’Agord and Molnar are now one of eight teams remaining at the Regional Championships.
“They are playing well and have become a pretty good team for us,” said Alabama head coach Billy Pate.
After receiving a bye in the opening round yesterday, the duo’s first match came against Vanderbilt’s Andy Mack and Ryan Preston. D’Agord and Molnar advanced with an 8-3 win.
Billy Mertz and RJ Murray won one of their two matches Saturday. They defeated Kentucky’s Jason Mallaiah and Marcus Sundh before falling to Vanderbilt’s Scott Brown and Jason Pinsky, 8-2 in the Round of 16.
