The Alabama Swimming and Diving teams held their annual Crimson and White Intrasquad tonight in the Don Gambril Olympic Pool with the White team coming out on top.
"We had some strong swims tonight," head coach Eric McIlquham said. "It was a good starting point for our season and gave us a good gauge of where we are at this point in the season. Tonight gave us a good feel of how far we have to go before we head to Baton Rouge to face LSU in a couple of weeks."
The Tide had some standout performances from its 'first-string', including Vlad Polyakov, fresh off a two bronze medal performance at the FINA World Championships earlier this month.
"Vlad and some of the others really looked good out there tonight," McIlquham said. "They turned in some good times without really pushing it too hard."
McIlquham also commented on freshman Kim Singer, who posted a pair of career best times in the 500 and 1000 freestyles and sophomore Bridgett Belyea who posted a solid 1000 time.
"I think Bridgett really did some growing up over the course of her freshman year," McIlquham said. "She looked pretty solid for this point in the season."
Sophomore Hunor Mate' and senior Franck Southon also received kudos for their efforts, posting strong times in the 200 breaststroke and 200 backstroke respectively.
Alabama takes to the road for its first meet of the season. The men swim LSU and the women face the Tigers and Arkansas in October 29 in Baton Rouge, La.
