TUSCALOOSA - The University of Alabama volleyball team earned an impressive 3-0 (30-20, 30-25, 30-25) sweep of South Carolina on Friday night in the CAVE.
The Tide improved to 14-4 overall and 4-3 in the SEC with a dominating performance against the visiting Gamecocks (10-6, 3-4 SEC). Alabama got solid play on both offense and defense against USC en route to improving to 8-1 at home this season.
"This was the most complete match we have played this year," said UA head coach Judy Green. "As a whole and individual players in particular really grew up this week. We had fantastic balance on offense tonight and we were very hard to defend."
Alabama maintained comfortable leads in all three games of the match as the Tide offense kept the Gamecock defense off-balance. UA's defense also got strong performances at the net and in the back row.
Senior All-American Erin Heffner paced the balanced performance leading the way with 20 kills and 15 digs. Crystal Hudson finished with nine kills along with nine from Kelley Potter and eight kills by Julie Farley. Jessica Yearout finished with 12 digs on the night.
Farley recorded a team high six blocks for the Tide including a career-high four block solos. Rachael Green finished with five blocks as Bama out-blocked USC 12 to 10. Brigitte Slack handed out 46 assists in the three games.
South Carolina was led by nine kills from Lynae Vanden Hull and 10 digs from Katelyn Panzau.
Alabama concludes its current home stand on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. versus No. 17 Tennessee. The match will be broadcast live on the radio at WVUA 90.7 FM and simulcast on the web at www.rolltide.com.
