TUSCALOOSA - The University of Alabama volleyball team will be part of the UA Homecoming festivities this weekend hosting a pair of important Southeastern Conference matches against South Carolina and No. 17 Tennessee in the CAVE.
The Tide enters the weekend at 13-4 overall and 3-3 in the SEC. Bama is looking to get back on the winning track after dropping a hard-fought decision to Arkansas last Sunday afternoon. This weekend's matches mark the end of UA's current home stand.
"The matches this weekend should be very exciting and competitive," said UA head coach Judy Green. "We are looking forward to having some large crowds with all the fans in town for the homecoming game. We have worked extremely hard this week in practice and are ready to get back on the court in front of our fans and play again. I encourage everybody to come and check out the action this weekend because it will be high level volleyball competition."
Alabama welcomes South Carolina on Friday night at 7 p.m. The Gamecocks are 10-5 (3-3 SEC) this year and riding a two-match win streak. The Tide has won the last three meetings between the two including an upset victory over a No. 18 ranked USC squad in the 2002 SEC Tournament. Friday is "Tan A Fan" night with fans in attendance having the opportunity to register for chances at free tanning sessions from Bama Tan. Free food will also be available for the first 200 fans through the doors.
The Tide squares off against No. 17 ranked Tennessee on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. The Lady Vols are 16-1 (6-0 SEC) heading into this weekend's competition that begins for them at Auburn on Friday night. UT is on a seven-match win streak including posting 3-0 sweeps of all six of its SEC foes thus far. Sunday marks the Lady Vols first appearance in Tuscaloosa since the 2000 season because of a scheduling quirk. Tennessee is the second ranked team that Alabama has played this season. The match is scheduled to be broadcast live on radio by WVUA 90.7 FM and simulcast on the web at www.rolltide.com.
Due to the start of renovation construction on Coleman Coliseum and RV parking for the Tide's homecoming football game, parking will be extremely limited for UA Volleyball matches this weekend. Parking for Friday's match is available in front of the Coliseum (including road between baseball field and administration building), the grass strip on Hackberrry (outside of track stadium) and in the Bryant Drive lot next to the football building. On Sunday, parking will also be available in the main east coliseum parking lot.
Admission to all Alabama Volleyball matches is free and open to the public. The Tide plays in the CAVE (Coleman Auxiliary Volleyball Extension) at the back of Coleman Coliseum. Fans can also follow along with all the action via live stats on the internet at www.rolltide.com.
