Inside Tide Volleyball: Gettin' to Know Erin Heffner

Erin Heffner is in her fourth and final season with the Alabama Volleyball team. A senior from Ft. Wayne, Ind., Erin plays the outside hitter position for the Tide. A four-year starter for UA, Erin has had a highly decorated career up to this point. Already the program’s career leader in kills and total attempts, Erin is also listed among the school’s Top 10 in several other statistical categories. A three-time All-SEC honoree, she also earned AVCA Honorable Mention All-American accolades last year and is a candidate for All-American honors again this year. Erin leads the SEC and ranks 5th in the nation for kills per game and has recorded double-digit kills in 31 straight matches. She is also a two-time member of the Academic All-SEC team. Erin is serving as team co-captain for the second time in her career.
Erin and her teammates look to regain their winning ways this weekend with a pair of pivotal home SEC contests against South Carolina (Friday) and #17 Tennessee (Sunday).
What’s your favorite thing about the University of Alabama?
“I love the campus here and I also think that my team is awesome.”
What is the most memorable moment of your career so far?
“I have to say upsetting South Carolina at the SEC Tournament when they were ranked 18th in the country (2002 SEC Tourney)”
What three words describe you personality on court? What about off court?
“On court I would say Intense... Hard-working... Serious and off-court it would be Laid-back... Goofy and I guess lazy”
Do you have any pre-match superstitions, if so what are they?
“Mandy (the trainer) always braids my hair before the match”
What will you miss the most when you are done playing? Least?
“The competition and playing matches with this team. I definitely won’t miss the Barn (location of pre-season running workouts)”
What are you prouder of accomplishing: 1,000 kills or 1,000 digs?
“Ooohhh, I’d say 1,000 kills”
What channel rules your TV?
“TBS... but I really don’t watch a lot of TV”
What state have you never visited but really want to and why?
“Hawaii because it is so tropical with beaches and nice weather.”
What nickname(s) do you go by?
“Heff”
Something few people know about me is...
“I was in competitive gymnastics until like 7th or 8th grade”
