Nearly a week off of their 4-3 season opening win, The University of Alabama women’s tennis team will travel to Boston, Massachusetts to face the No. 12 (ITA) Harvard Crimson on Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
The Crimson Tide, ranked No. 30 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, defeated Louisville in last Friday’s home opener. This will be the first match of the spring for Harvard, who finished 19-4 a year ago and won the Ivy League.
“This is an excellent opportunity for us to test ourselves against a top 12 nationally ranked team,” said head coach Jenny Mainz. “It will be a nice transition competing against an out of conference and out of region opponent.”
Alabama leads the series against Harvard 2-1, with Harvard winning the last meeting 5-4 at the NCAA Championships in 1997.
“Harvard is solid from top to bottom,” Mainz said. “These early season challenges will help prepare us for the stout SEC schedule ahead.”
Harvard returns eight players from last year’s Sweet 16 team, including Courtney Bergman, ranked No. 25 in singles play, and Susanna Lingman, who is ranked No. 49 in doubles with Bergman.
