Men's Track Has Impressive Outing at Niswonger Invitational

Youth was served for the Crimson Tide men's track team at the Niswonger Invitational as four Alabama athletes claimed event championships while three other posted three runner-up finishes.
"This was an outstanding competition for our team," said Alabama Head Coach Harvey Glance. "We got a chance to see our young guys really come into play this weekend and they had a much better competition than last weekend."
For the second straight weekend, sophomore Peter Etoot ran the fastest time in his respective event, it being the 800m this weekend. Etoot ran a team season fastest time of 1:50.69, nearly two seconds faster than his closest competitor.
Matt Vogtner claimed the pole vault championship with a jump of 15'07.00", six inches higher than his nearest competitor.
Erroll Hickenbottom posted a personal best time of 8.16 in the 60m hurdles en route to winning the championship in the consolation group of the event.
Tyler Stanfield capped the Tide's first place finishes winning the mile event with a time of 4:15.83. Stanfield's victory marked the second straight week a Bama runner has won the mile event.
Sprinter Chauncey Harris was one of the busiest Crimson Tide athletes on the weekend. He posted a first place finish in the preliminary heat of the 60 meter dash, posting a personal best time of 6.76, tenth fastest in Alabama history and tying former Crimson Tide All-American and National Champion Ron Bramlett. Harris finished third in the 60m finals, with the second fastest time among collegians.
Harris also posted a personal best time of 21.46 in the 200m finishing second in the event but first among collegians.
Also posting personal bests for Alabama were Keith Baker (47'08.50", shot put), Steven Boozer (48'09.00, shot put and 45'07.00", weight throw), Byron Gibson (8.08, 60m hurdles) and Josphat Waweru (4:18.05, mile).
The Crimson Tide will take the next weekend off from competition before heading to South Bend, Indiana for the Meyo Invite, February 6-7.
