The University of Alabama head women’s soccer coach Don Staley has announced that current assistant coach Teresa Patterson has been promoted to the first assistant position.
The move comes on the heels of former first assistant Rena Richardson’s departure to take the head coaching position at the University of Tulsa.
“I am absolutely thrilled to be promoted by Coach Staley,” said Patterson. “The University of Alabama has an amazing athletic tradition, and there is no doubt that Crimson Tide soccer is moving in an exciting direction. The SEC is one of the elite soccer conferences in the country, and Coach Staley is one of the best in the business.”
Patterson works primarily with the goalkeepers and was instrumental in current Tide goalie Laura Lowman posting a career high four shutouts in the 2003 season.
“This was a natural progression for Teresa,” said Staley. “She and I are on the same page as far as our coaching philosophies and I feel she’s very deserving of the promotion. Her experience and passion for the game will only help this program become more competitive in the years to come.”
Patterson joined Staley and the Crimson Tide soccer program prior to the start of the 2003 season and helped make an immediate impact helping the Alabama goaltenders post the program’s second lowest GAA in the last five years and the third lowest in the last nine seasons.
