TUSCALOOSA - The University of Alabama women's basketball team (9-5, 1-0 SEC) hopes to continue its winning ways in Southeastern Conference play on Thursday night when the Tide hosts Ole Miss (10-6, 1-1 SEC) at 7 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum.
The Crimson Tide earned a come-from-behind victory in their SEC opener on Sunday afternoon against South Carolina. The victory snapped a six-game losing streak for Alabama in league debuts.
Against the Gamecocks, freshman Kate Mastin scored the winning basket with 25 seconds remaining and fellow freshman Lauren Hill iced the game with a pair of free throws with just three ticks left to play. USC's buzzer-beating three-point attempt rattled off the rim to give Bama the hard-fought victory.
The game with Ole Miss pits Bama first-year assistant Ron Aldy against the program and players he guided for the past seven seasons at the Lady Rebel head coach. Aldy, will also reunite with his former player and co-worker, UM head coach Carol Ross. He coached Ross in high school then spent five seasons at Florida working for her as the associate head coach.
Ross and Ole Miss come in to Thursday's game with Alabama looking to regain their winning ways. The Lady Rebels had a five-game win streak snapped on Sunday on the road at Arkansas.
Following their tilt with Ole Miss, the Crimson Tide hits the road for a pair of SEC road contests against nationally-ranked opponents. UA travels to Knoxville, Tenn., on Sunday to face No. 5 Tennessee at 3 p.m. (ET) before heading just down the road to face No. 20 Auburn at 7 p.m. next Thursday night in Auburn.
