LARAMIE, WY-For the second straight match, Alabama Head Coach Don Staley was denied his 200th career victory as a women's soccer coach as the Tide (1-2) dropped a 2-1 heartbreaker to the Wyoming Cowgirls (2-1).
The Crimson Tide offense was unable to get things going until it was too late as the Cowgirls out shot the Tide 18-5.
"We came out extremely flat in the first half," said Staley. "Wyoming came out, they played our game and they jumped all over us. We're going to have to hurry up and get things together if we want to come out of this trip with split."
The Cowgirls got out of the gate first taking a 1-0 lead 30:48 into the first match. Mari Gomes found a loose ball in front of the net and punched it past Tide keeper Laura Lowman.
Nearly nine minutes later Gomes found the back of the net again, this time firing off a shot from 15 yards out for a 2-0 Wyoming lead.
The Tide finally got on the board with 18:14 left in the match initiated by a Gillian Kilburn corner kick. Kilburn put the kick into play with the ball being touched by Kylie Boyd over to Dawn Nash who finished off the shot cutting the Cowgirl lead in half, 2-1.
Nash's goal moved her into a tied for seventh on Alabama's all-time goals scored list with 18 and into a three-way tie for eighth on the Tide's all-time points scored list with 46.
The Tide continues its western toad swing on Sunday when the team travels to Flagstaff, Arizona for a Sunday afternoon match with the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. CT.
