TUSCALOOSA, AL—Another match and another milestone down for University of Alabama head soccer coach Don Staley as he guided the Crimson Tide soccer team (6-3-0) to a 2-0 victory over the Louisiana-Lafayette Rajin' Cajuns (4-4-1) capturing his 100th career victory at the Capstone.
Staley switched the formation the team had been using all season, changing to a more defensive setup and the switch worked as the Bama defense held the Rajin' Cajuns to only four shots en route to goalie Laura Lowman's seventh career shutout.
"You can tell we were preparing for the upcoming SEC schedule, playing a more physical game," said Staley. "As for the 100th victory, I appreciate the players. It was like blending the past teams with the present. It's great to be a head coach at the University of Alabama."
When asked about how long it would take till he reaches his 200th victory at Alabama, Staley said, "It won't take another 10 years, with the support (Athletic Director) Coach (Mal) Moore, the Board of Trustees and President Witt have given us with the new facilities, we're going to win a lot of games."
Libby Probst got the Tide on the board in the 35th minute when she took a centering pass from Dawn Nash and pushed it past the La.-Lafayette keeper for a 1-0 lead. It was her sixth goal of the season, a career high. The assist by Nash was her 15th career assist tying her for second on the all-time Alabama assist list.
Gillian Kilburn gave Bama some breathing room with her second goal of the season when she made a turn on the Rajin' Cajun defender and converted on the shot at the 50:56 mark for the 2-0 Alabama lead.
Staley will start his quest for his second 100 Bama victories on Sunday when the Tide hosts the South Alabama Jaguars. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
