TUSCALOOSA - After three weeks and eight matches on the road, the University of Alabama volleyball team finally makes its home debut this weekend at the Crimson Tide Invitational on Friday and Saturday in the CAVE.
The tournament features a field of four teams including Alabama, Georgia Southern, Jacksonville State and UAB. The schedule calls for four matches on Friday and a pair of matches on Saturday.
The event marks the Tide's 17th time to host a regular-season tournament. Alabama owns a 56-17 record in those contests and has captured six tournament crowns with the last coming at the 1998 Crimson Tide Classic.
"We are excited and looking forward to playing in front of our home fans," said UA head coach Judy Green. "This team has worked hard and improved since the season started and now we get to show our stuff to our fans in our beautifully renovated facility. I'm looking forward to a very challenging and competitive tournament this weekend.
Friday's competition begins at 10 a.m. with Georgia Southern facing UAB followed by Alabama hosting Jacksonville State at Noon. The night session starts with UAB meeting Jacksonville State at 5 p.m. and concludes with the Tide playing Georgia Southern at 7 p.m. On Saturday, GSC and JSU square off at 11 a.m. with Bama and UAB concluding tournament action at 1:30 p.m.
