At 10:30 a.m. this morning, my alarm clock rang and it was time to get up to start another day. It was easy to get up for two reasons, first of all that is the latest we have slept in a very long time, and secondly, competition was on the menu for the day so I was definitely looking forward to that. Our Manager Sean started getting us fired up in the team room when he turned on the music and danced for us. Warm-ups began promptly at 11:30 a.m. where we did Columbus five on five. It is a drill where we need 100 overhead passes in a row and each side rotates each time we send the ball over the net. It is a good drill to work on our defensive positioning, covering the hitters, and basic communication. We did arm warm up and peppering and then it was time to get the scrimmage started.
We started out playing two games to 30 and one game to 15. My team was me, KT, EP, Barker, Mary Beth, Bibber, and not to forget Chris Redding. The other side had Heff, Pots, my cuz Crystal, Rachael, Abbi, and Sara. My team won all three games! The scores were 31-29, 30-28, and 15-11. My team started off a little rough, giving away 11 aces to the other team. However, strong serving and determination brought us back in the game where we were able to come out on top. The next two games of that set were won a little bit easier because my team really stepped up on passing. We came out fiery hot in the third game where there was no looking back as we rose to victory.
After a 5 minute break we peppered around a little bit and then split into different teams where we would play two more games to 30 and one game to 15. My team for this set was me, Heff, KT, EP, Bibber, MB and Rachael. The other side was Pots, Sara, Abbi, my cuz Crystal, Barker, Chris and Michelle Durban. Well my team did it again. We won all the games. My team was fired up and really jumped out on top early to give us an outstanding victory of 30-17 in the first game. When coach asked us what we liked about that game, one word basically summed it all up "everything". We passed great, blocked well, and had wonderful defensive intensity. The second game was won 17-11 by my team. This score may sound a little weird. That's because Judy called the game off when EP made an outstanding play at the net. EP has come so far in her setting abilities in such a short amount of time. She really proved that today when she faked the dump and made a great set outside. Everyone was stunned.
With such an amazing scrimmage so early in the season, I am so excited for what this season has to come. We have an outstanding group of players, coaches and support staff this year. Our trainers and managers are top notch. We are so lucky. With an exciting day of scrimmaging I am positive that we will all sleep soundly tonight. It all starts again tomorrow! Peace Volleytiders.
Roll Tide!
