TUSCALOOSA – The University of Alabama women’s basketball team finished the 2002-03 academic year with an impressive 3.237 cumulative GPA. Nine of the squad’s 13 players posted grade points of 3.0 or higher for the year.
The Tide’s classroom success included a pair of perfect semester performances with sophomore Katie Sipe earning a 4.0 last fall and senior Shun Hunter, who graduated in May, posting a 4.0 in her final undergraduate semester this spring. Sipe led the team with a 3.928 GPA for the year.
“I am extremely proud of the hard work and dedication shown by this team in the classroom last year,” said UA head coach Rick Moody. “It is a tribute to their commitment and a true reflection of the type of student-athletes that are a part of this program. I have challenged all of our players to continue this commitment to excellence in the coming years.”
Alabama’s strong performance off the court has put the squad in position to earn a prestigious WBCA Academic Award handed out this fall.
