TUSCALOOSA, Ala. --- University of Alabama athletics director Mal Moore announced today that the football series with Penn State has been moved.
The Penn State games in 2004 (at State College) and 2005 (in Tuscaloosa) have been rescheduled for Sept. 14, 2013 in State College and Sept. 13, 2014, in Tuscaloosa.
"We were interested in rearranging our football schedule in order to give us seven home games the next few years," Moore said, "and Penn State was interested in getting another home game, too.
"We are faced with a substantial loss of revenue the next couple of years and it is beneficial to us to play another home game in 2004. The earliest we could play a 12-game season would be 2013 and by that time, our new stadium expansion will be completed, so things just fell into place."
Utah State will now be the Tide's opening opponent in 2004 and the Aggies will return to Bryant-Denny Stadium on Oct. 29, 2005.
Alabama and Penn State, two of the nation's premier football powers, played a 10-game series between 1981 and 1990 and the Tide owns an 8-5 series advantage.
