BIRMINGHAM – The Southeastern Conference office announced the 2002-03 Women’s Basketball Academic Honor Roll on Tuesday and the Alabama Crimson Tide boasted a pair of players, Shun Hunter and Leigh Papisan, on the list.
Hunter, a senior forward on this year’s squad, and Papisan, who retired from Alabama following her junior season a year ago, were named to the honor squad based on their academic performances during the 2001-02 academic year. The UA duo joined 42 other women’s basketball student-athletes from the league’s 12 teams on the prestigious list.
“We are extremely proud of the accomplishments of Shun and Leigh in the classroom,” said Bama head coach Rick Moody. “They both demonstrated an impressive commitment to excellence on and off the court and their hard work is a tremendous reflection on our entire program. I fully expect us to have many more Academic All-SEC performers in the years to come especially after the outstanding academic performances we had this past fall.”
During the 2002 fall semester, the Crimson Tide squad saw nine of its 13 student-athletes earn a 3.0 GPA or higher.
