AUBURN - The good news is it can only get better for the University of Alabama men's golf team. The Crimson Tide had a rough first round of play at Auburn's Billy Hitchcock Intercollegiate on Friday, shooting 312, a score that placed Alabama 12th of twelve teams.
But shaving off just a few strokes on Saturday could help the Tide climb up as team scores in the bottom six half of the field are fairly close. Auburn leads its own tournament which is being played on one of its home courses, Saugahatchee Country Club, par 72. The Tigers shot one under par, 287 to emerge as the tournament's first round leader. Auburn's Tyler McKeever leads the field of individuals after scoring 68, four under par in round one. He has a one stroke lead over Charleston's Bruce McDonald and UAB's Nathan Turner.
