Head Coach Mike Price said that one of the goals of Wednesday's practice was to scrimmage many of the second- and third-team players who did not see much action in last week's scrimmage. "It's really fun to watch those guys play and get better, and just to wear that Alabama uniform," Price said. "That's one of the fun things about being a coach."
Price announced that rosters for Saturday's game will be released Thursday afternoon, after the players are informed which team they will represent. He said that A-Day would run with all rules of a regular game except that the quarterbacks will not be subject to `live' tackling.
Price made announcements regarding several players who were not at today's practice.
"One of the unpleasant things I must report today is that due to violation of team policy, Todd Bates will not be eligible to play next season. He will be back for his senior season. I want to stress that Todd will remain a member of this team. He is a fine young man and an excellent football player, but there were circumstances which necessitated this decision. He will practice with the team the upcoming year and we look forward to having him back the following season."
Price also announced that defensive end Nautyn McKay-Loescher has withdrawn from the spring semester at Alabama, but will return for the interim and summer terms. "We are applying for an academic hardship waiver based on illness. If that goes through then he will be eligible next fall," Price said.
Price also stated that quarterback Brandon Avalos will not play in the spring game on Saturday.
