TUSCALOOSA, AL - While March Madness has its grips on the entire country, Music City Madness took hold at the Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium on Day 2 at the Alabama Relays as Chris Martland of Belmont and Josie Hahn of Vanderbilt, both Nashville area schools, captured the decathlon and heptathlon titles.
Martland finished with a score of 6,744 points, more than four points more than his closest competitor, Jacob Friess of Western Michigan.
Josie Hahn, on the other hand, trailed runner-up Oluchi Elechi of unattached-Mercury Alabama, by 50 points heading into the final event, the 800m run. Hahn finished far enough ahead of Elechi to claim the heptathlon title by 11 points.
Day 2 action was closed out with the men's and women's 10k runs. Sarah Hinkley of Western Michigan dominated from the opening gun and finished just under two minutes ahead of Robyn Stevens from Wisconsin-Parkside. Hinkley posted a time of 35:41.36.
In the men's 10k, unattached Phillip Wiles claimed first place with a time of 30:59.22. Bryan Baddorf and Ricky McLain of Samford were the first collegians to cross the start/finish line with times of 31:07.70 and 31:44.49 respectively.
