Etoot and Williams Travel to NCAA Indoor Championships

The time has finally arrived for Alabama track standouts Peter Etoot and Latonel Williams as they travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas this weekend for the 2003 NCAA Indoor Championships.

Etoot will be competing in the 800m, the same event that he captured the SEC Championship in two weeks ago.  It was during the SEC Championships that Etoot posted his automatic qualifying time of 1:46.50.  The 800m preliminaries are scheduled for 4:15 p.m. and the finals will begin at approximately 6:35 p.m. on Saturday.

Williams posted provisional qualifying times throughout the season in the 60m dash and the 200m sprint.  His fastest time in the 60m was a 6.67 mark at the Iowa State Invitational while his fastest 200m time was 20.95 at the same Iowa State meet.  The 200m preliminaries are scheduled for Friday at 7:05 p.m. and the finals will be held at approximately 8:30 p.m. the same day.  The 60m prelims will be held at approximately 4:50 p.m. with the finals occurring at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday.

Williams is making his second straight appearance at the NCAA Indoor Championships as he competed in the 60m dash last year posting a personal best time of 6.65, but was unable to advance past the preliminary heat.  Williams went to earn All-American status at the NCAA Outdoor Championships as a member of the 400m relay team.

Alabama has a total of 14 national champions in the indoor season, including most recently Ron Bramlett in the 60m hurdles and Miguel Pate in the long jump in the 2002 season.

The meet is scheduled to begin Friday at 12:00 p.m. with the weight throw while the 1,600 meter relay, schedule for Saturday at 8:10 p.m. will close out the meet.
