TIDE SEEKS MUSIC CITY MAGIC
The University of Alabama women's basketball team is hoping to hit the right notes on Thursday night when they face #18 Vanderbilt at Memorial Gym in Nashville, Tenn. The Tide looks to snap a two-game losing streak that includes a heartbreaking defeat this past Sunday versus Arkansas thanks to a buzzer-beater by the Lady Razorbacks.
*Both teams are in need of a "W" as the Tide has dropped 7 of their last 8 (including 4 of last 5 road tilts) and Vanderbilt has lost twice in its last three games.
*Alabama's last win in the state of Tennessee was a 59-55 victory over Auburn in the first round of the 2001 SEC Tournament played at the Pyramid in Memphis.
*The 'Dores are 8-2 this year at home with both losses in Memorial Gym coming against SEC squads.
*Just one Bama player is shooting over 48% from the floor while Vandy's lineup features five including one over 60%.
BAMA-VANDERBILT SERIES NOTEBOOK
*This is the 27th all-time meeting between the Tide and Commodores. The pair first met in 1978, and have met every season since 1984. (see p.2 for complete series game results)
*Vanderbilt owns a 16-10 edge in the all-time series including their current three-game win streak. The Tide's last win came during the 1998-99 season when Bama topped the Commodores 102-59 in Tuscaloosa.
*Alabama's Rick Moody is 4-9 all-time against Vanderbilt and tonight's game marks the first time he's coached against VU's Melanie Balcomb.
*The Tide is 0-9 all-time against Vandy in Memorial Gym with their best chance at a win falling just short in 1998 as VU held on for an 81-79 victory.
*UA sophomore Katie Sipe was a teammate of the Vandy sophomore duo of Abi Ramsey and Ashley Earley on a Nike AAU team. All three players hail from the state of Tennessee.
