Bama Baseball Hosts Rhode Island

The Alabama Crimson Tide continues its busy week by hosting the Rhode Island Rams in a three-game series here at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The series opens tonight at 6:30 p.m. and continues Saturday (4 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.) here at the Joe.
Alabama brings a three-game winning streak into the Rhode Island series and is coming off a 21-0 win over Miss. Valley State last night. Rhode Island has not played since dropping back-to-back double headers at New Mexico State on Feb. 14-15 in Las Cruces.
Alabama and Rhode Island have never met in baseball action. In addition, the Rams are the first of two straight A-10 opponents the Crimson Tide will face in the next two weekends. UMass comes to town next weekend for a three-game set with the Crimson Tide.
THE RECORDS
Alabama (6-2) has won three straight games for the first time this season. Rhode Island (0-4) lost all four games at New Mexico State and has not played since Feb. 15, 2003.
THE COACHES
Alabama’s Jim Wells is in his ninth season at the Capstone, compiling a 377-154 (.709) record at the helm of the Crimson Tide. Overall, Wells is 568-243 (.700) in his 14th season as a Division I head coach today. URI head coach Frank Leoni is in his 12th season with the Rams and has compiled a 171-280-3 (.380) all at the Kingston campus.
LAST TIME OUT
The Crimson Tide posted its most lopsided win since the 2001 season with a 21-0 shutout against Miss. Valley State last night. Bama scored in six of the eight innings, including a season-high six runs in the fifth inning. Beau Hearod (2-for-2, 5 RBI), Adam Pavkovich (3-for-5, 3 RBI) and Allen Rice (3-for-3, 5 RBI) all homered in the win. Seth Johnson (6 IP) and Dewayne Marlowe combined for the three-hit shutout, limiting the Delta Devils to just three singles.
