Track and Field Teams Travel to SEC Indoor Championships

The University of Alabama men and women's track and field team takes travels to Gainesville, Fla. this weekend for the 2003 SEC Indoor Championships.
The Tide men are looking to add more names to the NCAA Indoor Championship qualifying list. Alabama's men already have three athletes provisionally qualified in four events along with both the 4x400m and distance medley relays.
Latonel Williams leads the way for Alabama, having posted qualifying marks in the 60m dash, the 200m sprint and is also a member of the 4x400m relay team.
The Tide men posted a third place finish at last year's SEC Indoor Championship meet, its best finish since a third place finish in 1986. Alabama has won five SEC Indoor Championships, the last coming in 1972.
Alabama's women have one athlete with two provisional cuts. Freshman Beth Mallory has achieved the standard in the shot put and the weight throw.
Last season the Tide women finished eighth at the SEC Indoor Championships. Alabama's women have won the title twice since the championship got underway in 1984 with the last one coming in 1994.
Alabama's men and women get underway Saturday afternoon. The championships conclude Sunday afternoon.
