Tide Plays Host To Georgia Bulldogs Tuesday Night
The University of Alabama men's basketball team, 14-7 overall and 4-6 in the Southeastern Conference, plays host to the Georgia Bulldogs, 14-7 overall and 6-4 in the SEC, on Tuesday, February 18, 2003.
Tip off in Coleman Coliseum (15,316) is set for 8 p.m. CT, the later tip due to the game being televised nationally on ESPN.
After Tuesday night, Alabama hits the road again for a pair of games against first Tennessee in Knoxville on February 22 then in Starkville at Mississippi State on February 26.
Game Will Air on ESPN
For the fourth time this season, the Crimson Tide will play to a national television audience on ESPN when Alabama plays host to Georgia on Tuesday night.
Larry Conley and Dave O'Brien are the broadcast's duo for the game.
ESPN has already televised Alabama's games against Ohio State, Ole Miss and Kentucky this season.

"The Mark Gottfried Show" airs each week on CSS. The 30-minute show stars Tide basketball coach Mark Gottfried and is hosted by Tom Roberts of the Crimson Tide Sports Network. A new show airs each Tuesday night at 10 p.m. CT.
Fans Entering Coliseum Subject to Search
Because of the heightened national security alert, extra security measures will be in place at Coleman Coliseum this weekend. All bags, including purses, backpacks, briefcases, etc., will be searched upon entry to the coliseum. Fans are encouraged to arrive a tad earlier than they might normally arrive as the security checks will slow the lines into the coliseum.
Bobbleheads & Lunch Boxes are Upcoming Home Gifts
Early arrivals at Alabama's home games will receive some fun collectables in the next few weeks. Tentatively scheduled are Terrance Meade bobble head dolls at the Georgia game on February 18th, Kenny Walker bobble head dolls at the Ole Miss game on March 2nd and UA basketball metal lunch boxes at the South Carolina game on March 5th
Dudley Should Set Starts Record Tuesday
Should he start as expected, senior power forward Erwin Dudley will set the all-time career starts at the University of Alabama with 122 career starts. Dudley has started in every game Alabama has played in since he arrived four years ago. At R.C. Hatch High School, the Uniontown native's alma mater, he also started in every career game. That means he has now started in 201 consecutive games between high school and college.

Two Former Co-Workers Reunite
It was Georgia head coach Jim Harrick who gave Alabama head coach Mark Gottfried his first collegiate coaching job. When Harrick was head coach at UCLA, he hired Gottfried as his graduate assistant beginning with the 1988-89 season.
Gottfried was promoted to assistant coach soon after and remained at UCLA until just after the Bruins won the 1995 national championship and Gottfried as hired weeks later as head coach at Murray State. While Harrick and Gottfried were together at UCLA, UCLA advanced to the NCAA tournament all seven seasons and collected a 168-55 record. (The assistants with Gottfried on that staff also included current UCLA head coach Steve Lavin as well as Lorenzo Romar who went on to become head coach at Pepperdine and St. Louis).
Gottfried and Harrick have remained friends and talk on the phone fairly often. Harrick has even come to Tuscaloosa in the summertime to participate in the Mark Gottfried Celebrity Golf Tournament which benefits the Robert Scott Foundation.
And Former Teammates Reunite As Well
Four men who were teammates on a Georgia high school All-Star team will reunite in Tuscaloosa for this game. All are juniors. Alabama guard Demetrius Smith is from Hogansville, Ga. He played on the all-star team with Georgia starters Rashad Wright, Steve Thomas and Chris Daniels.
Alabama's roster includes two Georgia natives, Smith and freshman Evan Brock who is from Roswell, Ga., and prepped at Lassiter High School.
Georgia Series Dates to 1922
It was 1922 when Alabama and Georgia first met in men's basketball, a game that took place in Athens, Georgia. Alabama would win the first five games in the series between 1922 and 1934 and has gone on to lead the series 84 wins to 43 wins by Georgia.
Tuesday night's game marks the 128th meeting in men's basketball between these two schools. Because Alabama competes in the SEC Western Division and Georgia competes in the SEC Eastern Division, these two teams play one another only once each regular season, alternating sites each year.
In the last decade, Georgia took the early decade balance, winning six of eight---including four straight (1996-97-98-99) between 1993 and 1999. Alabama, however, has moved the balance to its side of late, having won three of the last four, including winning the second meeting of 1999 in the SEC tournament Georgia on 75-59 in Athens in 2000, but Alabama won 76-68 in Tuscaloosa in 2001 and then won 77-72 in Athens in 2002.
