Tuscaloosa - Erwin Dudley and Kennedy Winston both registered double-doubles and led the Alabama Crimson Tide (14-7 overall, 4-6 SEC) to an 84-68 win over the Auburn Tigers (17-6 overall, 6-4 SEC) in front of a sold out crowd at Coleman Coliseum Saturday night.
Dudley, the only SEC player that is averaging a double-double, recorded his seventh double-double of the season and 41st of his career with his team-high 20 points and 10 rebounds. With his start tonight, Dudley tied Eddie Phillips for first place on Alabama's all-time career starts list with 121 career starts. Dudley has started every game in his Alabama career.
Winston had what was arguably his best game of his young career by registering his first career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. He also had six assists, two steals and a blocked shot in 35 minutes of action.
"I thought Kennedy Winston played really well," said Alabama Head Coach Mark Gottfried. "You have got to remember that this was his 10th game in college. I thought he stepped in there and did a great job."
Winston and Dudley weren't the only players that contributed for the Tide. Alabama had five players score in double figures, including Mo Williams with 17, Kenny Walker with 13 and Earnest Shelton with 11.
The Tide jumped out to a 41-23 halftime lead and never looked back. Alabama shot 53 percent from the field and 37 percent from three-point range. It marked the first time all season Bama has shot at least 50 percent from the field.
Auburn was led by Marquis Daniels who had a game-high 23 points while pulling down six boards. Marco Killingsworth added 14 points and nine rebounds while Troy Gaines had 13 points.
Alabama will return to action on Tuesday night in Coleman Coliseum as the Tide plays host to the 20th (AP) ranked Georgia Bulldogs at 8 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN.
