After an early 2-0 deficit, No. 16 Alabama (3-0, 0-0) won the last five singles matches to secure a 5-2 win over Northwestern (3-1) Saturday at Combe Tennis Center in Evanston, Ill.
Northwestern swept the doubles point and took the first singles match for a quick two-point lead. Alabama's No. 1 player Maxim Belski retired his match due to injury in the Tide's only singles loss.
"We were able to be challenged early in the season and found a way to win on the road," Alabama head coach Billy Pate said. "They played well and I give them and their staff credit."
Jackie Jenkins and Chuck Perrin outlasted Alabama's Geoff Hiscox and Stephen Mitchell, 9-8 (6), giving the 8th-ranked duo their second loss of the season.
"It was a tremendous effort on our part to fight back from a 1-0 deficit after doubles. It was a tough battle throughout match, and our guys were really pushed," Pate said.
Christian Brodersen clinched the match for Alabama with a three-set win against Adam Schaechterle, notching his 17th consecutive dual-match victory.
Alabama returns home to host Georgia Tech on Friday and Jacksonville State and Georgia State on Sunday.
