TUSCALOOSA – University of Alabama junior Erin Heffner was selected an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) honorable mention All-American following the recently completed NCAA Final Four Championships.
A native of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Heffner becomes the first Crimson Tide player to earn this prestigious recognition. This season she led the SEC in kills with 5.21 per game and posted double figure kills in 28 of Alabama’s 31 matches. Heffner’s stellar year also included her garnering a third straight All-SEC selection and recording her 1,000th career kill.
“Erin had a tremendous season,” said UA head coach Judy Green. “This honor just goes to prove what I’ve said about her being not only one of the best outside hitters in the SEC, but also in the country. Words can’t possibly describe how valuable to our team Erin is. I am extremely proud of her. This is a great honor not only for Erin but also for the Alabama volleyball program.”
Heffner and her Crimson Tide teammates finished the 2003 season with an 18-13 overall record and an 11-5 mark in the SEC. Alabama reached the semifinals of the SEC Tournament for the third consecutive year and also posted their fifth straight winning season.
