TUSCALOOSA - Saturday night Kennedy Winston made a game-winning shot. And on Monday that shot and his career- high 27 points in the game earned him Southeastern Conference Player of the Week honors.
It is the first SEC Player of the Week honor for the sophomore from Prichard. It is the second time this season an Alabama player has won the award. Junior guard Earnest Shelton got the league's nod on December 8th.
Winston made a game-winning jump shot with four seconds remaining to lift Alabama to an 87-86 win against Oregon, the 2003 Pac-10 tournament champions, on Saturday night in the Las Vegas Showdown. Winston scored a career high 27 points in the game, including 17 in the first half. He coupled that night's performance with 20 points on Tuesday night in Alabama's win against Chattanooga to average 23.5 points for the week.
