TUSCALOOSA – University of Alabama volleyball junior outside hitter Erin Heffner was named a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-South Region team for her play during the 2003 season.
Heffner, a 6-0 native of Ft. Wayne, Ind., led the Southeastern Conference in kills at 4.82 per game. She was selected a first-team All-SEC honoree this year marking her third consecutive all-conference honor. Her selection to the AVCA All-Region team marks just the fourth time a Crimson Tide player has garnered this prestigious honor.
“This is a tremendous honor for Erin,” said UA head coach Judy Green, who has now had three Tide players earn All-Region accolades during her eight year tenure at Alabama. “It is definitely a great compliment to her hard work and dedication this season. She is very deserving of this recognition. I believe Erin truly proved herself to be one of the best outside hitters not only in the SEC but in this region. This award is also an outstanding tribute to the success of our program.”
Heffner was one of 12 players in the South Region named to this year’s squad. As a freshman in 2001, she was named the South Region Freshman of the Year. She joins former Tide standouts Nina Foster (1995) and Michelle Green (1999, 2000) as UA players to earn the postseason award.
