TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama has had 16 student-athletes earn academic All-America honors over the past three academic years, putting the university among the top ten in the nation.
Academic All-America honors are awarded to student-athletes based on a mixture of outstanding performance in the classroom and on the playing field. To earn the academic All-American honors, a student must have a minimum grade point average of 3.2 and must have participated in 50 % of the team's competition.
The secret behind the success of Alabama's student-athletes is a cooperative effort from the administration, coaches, faculty, and the staff at the Center for Athletic Student Services (CASS). Jon Dever, who joined the athletics staff in 1992, is the Director of Academic Services for athletics.
"That's fantastic," Dever said. "We're proud of what our student-athletes do in the classroom and how the coaches support all of our efforts. We're happy with support we get from the administration, the president, the athletic director and everyone involved."
