University of Alabama senior Dawn Nash has been named the Southeastern Conference’s soccer Player of the Week after recording two game-winning goals for the Tide this weekend.
Nash recorded golden goals against both LSU and Arkansas helping the Tide to its first weekend sweep of SEC competition since the 1998 season.
“Dawn’s been a tireless worker for us all season up front,” said Alabama Head Coach Don Staley. “Towards the end of the season though, we felt we’d get better production from her as an outside midfielder. I think this weekend, particularly, she showed people that she’s an outstanding defender as well.”
Nash’s game-winning goals were the sixth and seventh of her career tying her for fourth on Alabama’s all-time GWG list. She also moved into a three-way tie for fourth on Alabama’s all-time goals scored list and into third place on Bama’s all-time points scored list.
The award was the first of Nash’s career and the first for a Crimson Tide player since goalie Laura Lowman won the award in the final week of the 2002 season. Nash also became the sixth Crimson Tide soccer player to win the award.
Nash and the Crimson Tide will close out their regular season on Friday night hosting the Auburn Tigers with a spot in the SEC Tournmanent on the line for the Tide. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
