TUSCALOOSA – The Southeastern Conference office announced on Monday that University of Alabama junior outside hitter Erin Heffner was selected the SEC Volleyball Player of the Week after helping guide the Tide to a perfect 3-0 record last week.
Heffner, a native of Ft. Wayne, Ind., recorded 65 kills in the three matches boasting an amazing 6.50 kills per game average. She was the team leader in kills for all three matches including a season-best 24 kill performance against Mississippi State. Her selection as SEC Player of the Week, marks the third consecutive season that Heffner has garnered a weekly conference honor.
In addition to her solid kill totals, Heffner enjoyed a very effective hitting week finishing with a .453 hitting percentage. Against State, she hit at a .677 clip with 24 kills and only three errors in 31 attempts. Heffner also stood out defensively recording 23 digs (2.30 digs per game) and posting 11 total blocks. Her five blocks against MSU included a career high two solo blocks.
Already a member of the Tide’s 1,000 career kill club, Heffner jumped from sixth to fourth UA’s all-time list (1,314 total kills) with her performance last week.
Heffner and the rest of her Alabama teammates will return to SEC action this weekend when the Tide plays host to Kentucky on Friday night and South Carolina on Sunday afternoon.
