OXFORD, MS-The University of Alabama women's soccer team (7-7-1, 0-4-1) was unable to get any offense going tonight until late in the match as they dropped a 3-1 decision to the Ole Miss Rebels (13-2, 4-1).
The Tide managed 10 shots on the night with six of them making it through to Rebel keeper Brittany Gillespie.
Ole Miss struck first when Erin Edmundson took a pass from Brittney Potts and put it past Tide keeper Laura Lowman at the 14:20 mark for the early 1-0 Rebel lead.
The Rebels cushioned their lead nearly 24 minutes later when Emily Brown nailed a shot off a rebound from eight yards out for a 2-0 Ole Miss lead.
Ole Miss added a third goal at the 51:46 mark when Lindley Beckman's shot scooted underneath Lowman for a 3-0 Ole Miss lead.
The Tide got on the board, scoring their second goal of the SEC season when Elizabeth Jannik poked home a loose ball in front of the Ole Miss goal cutting the Rebel lead to 3-1 with 3:45 left in the match. The goal for Jannik was her second of the season.
"It was a disappointing loss tonight to a very good team," said Alabama Head Coach Don Staley. "We look forward to the challenge that lies ahead of us on Sunday at Mississippi State."
Ole Miss has now pulled even with Alabama in the all-time series 5-5. It also marked the third straight victory by the Rebels against Alabama.
The Tide will close out its Mississippi road trip on Sunday when the team travels to Starkville for a 1:00 p.m. date with the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
