The No. 7 ranked (Trackwire.com) University of Alabama men’s track and field team will take to the road this weekend as the team travels to Fayetteville, Arkansas to open the 2003 season in the SEC 6 Way Challenge.
The last time Alabama traveled to an indoor meet in Fayetteville was the 2002 NCAA Indoor Championships and the Tide came away with a 2nd place finish.
However, this year’s team will feature a lot of new faces, but one face the fans will recognize is that of senior All-American David Kimani. Kimani earned All-American status in three events for the Tide in last year’s NCAA meet.
“David’s won seven national championships,” said Alabama Head Coach Harvey Glance. “This year we are hoping he can improve on those numbers, but he is certainly the foundation of this program for the season.”
The meet, scheduled to begin on Saturday at the Randal Tyson Track Center, will resemble a national championship meet as five of the six SEC Western division teams will be represented. Those five schools are all ranked in the Top 25 with Alabama, Arkansas, LSU and Mississippi St. all being ranked in the Top 10 and Ole Miss checking in at No. 24.
