ALABAMA FINALLY RETURNS HOME
The Alabama women's basketball team finally gets a chance to enjoy the comforts of home following a month-long stretch of games away from Coleman Coliseum. The Tide hosts #5 Tennessee on Thursday night in UA's first home game since defeating UIC on Dec. 16. Bama played six games during that period posting a 3-3 record. The Tennessee game is being televised by Comcast Sports South. The first 500 fans at the UT game will receive an Alabama 3-ring binder to celebrate the return of classes.
COACHING LEGENDS SQUARE OFF
There will be nearly 1100 victories and 43 years of coaching experience roaming the sidelines in tonight's game. Both UA head coach Rick Moody and UT's Pat Summitt have amassed legendary success in their careers. Moody is the all-time winningest coach at Alabama (men's or women's basketball) with 282 victories while Summitt became the first women's basketball coach in history to reach 800 victories with her team's victory over DePaul on Tuesday.
BAMA-UT SERIES NOTEBOOK
*This is the 35th meeting between the Tide and Volunteers. The pair have met each season since 1977 except in 1982 & 1985. (see p.5 for series game listing)
*Tennessee has won the last 25 meetings with Rick Moody searching for his first win against the Lady Vols (0-19) as a head coach. In 1996-98, the squads played four times with ever game decided by 5 points or less.
*Bama and UT have met each other in 6 of the last 8 SEC Tournaments.
*The three highest home attendance games in Tide women's basketball history have come versus the Lady Vols including the program record 9,786 in 1999.
TUBE TIME FOR CRIMSON TIDE
The UT games marks the Tide's second straight televised game. Alabama dropped a hard fought 59-55 decision at Kentucky on Fox Sports Net last Sunday. In the Tide's only other TV appearance this year, UA earned a 70-59 upset of #24 BYU on 12/21.
