TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- University of Alabama head football coach Dennis Franchione announced Sunday that sophomore linebacker Jason Rawls has given up football due to medical reasons.
"Jason has had three surgeries on his knees and he felt that he could not continue playing football," Franchione said.
Rawls, a 6-0, 220-pound linebacker from Statesboro, Georgia, played 124 snaps in the first seven games last season before suffering an ACL injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the season.
He will remain in school on scholarship.
