2005 (Senior): Greg saw limited action, having spent most of the year nursing an injured shoulder he sustained in the preseason. He did take four snaps in Bama’s game against Florida and nine snaps against Utah State.
2004 (Junior): He saw action against Kentucky, Miss. State, LSU and Auburn, mainly as a blocker and then earned a start against Minnesota in the Music City Bowl. He missed spring practice while recovering from surgery to his right elbow.
2003 (Sophomore): When injuries decimated the tight end position, Greg moved from fullback to tight end. He played in the final 11 games of the season, getting 157 snaps. He caught two passes, both against Mississippi State for 34 yards.
2002 (Freshman): One of only two true freshmen to play, Greg played in 12 games and was a starter in six. He finished the season with 344 snaps. Greg started fall practice at linebacker, but depth at linebacker and injuries at the fullback slot pushed him to the offensive side of the ball. His first career start was against Arkansas and he finished the season starting five of the final eight games. His blocking was instrumental in the Tide's 213 rushing yards a game, the SEC's second-best mark. He had 19 carries for 81 yards to average 4.3 yards per carry. His longest run was a 25-yarder against Ole Miss. He also caught three passes for 10 yards, with a long of 11 yards against Vanderbilt. His best game was against Ole Miss when he carried four times for 33 yards.
Prep: Known as “Moose” by his teammates, McLain played both ways his senior season. He had 876 yards rushing and 16 touchdowns and 12 receptions for 314 yards and a pair of TDs. On defense, he had 82 tackles, four sacks, three caused fumbles and one fumble recovery. He was a four-year starter and played in 55 career games. His senior season, McLain helped Lineville to an 11-3 record and a spot in the state semifinals. He was a 2A all-state performer.
Personal: The son of Irma and Kerry Anderson, Greg has a younger brother, DeMario. Born 2-1-84. He is a Human Environmental Sciences major.
