Prep: Fanney signed with the Tide in 2004, but spent that season at Hargrave Military along with fellow Tide signees Lorenzo Washington and Lionel Mitchell. As a prep senior from Morristown-West High School, Fanney had 125 tackles and 17 sacks as he helped lead the Trojans to the final game of the Tennessee state playoffs before losing to Hillsboro. Fanney earned Citizen-Tribune Lakeway Defensive Player of the Year honors two years in a row. Superprep Magazine ranked Fanney as the 13th-best prospect in Tennessee. He was conference and region Defensive Player of the Year as a junior and senior.
Personal: Son of William and Thelma Ballinger. Has an older brother, Billy. Born 1-27-86. He is in pre-major studies.
