2005 Remington Award Watch List
2005 (Senior): JB started the first nine games of the season before suffering a broken left leg against Mississippi State that sidelined him for the remainder of the season. He had started 33 consecutive games prior to his injury. He played just 15 snaps in the State game before his injury. For the season, he participated in 509 snaps. Following spring practice, JB was named to the Remington Award Watch List. He was also winner of the Dwight Stephenson MVP Lineman of the A-Day game. He was a May, 2005 graduate of The University, majoring in Financial Planning.
2004 (Junior): JB continued his role as the Tide's starter at center and he played in 692 snaps on the season. He had 68 snaps in the Ole Miss game and 67 against Tennessee. It was his leadership at the pivot position that helped Alabama lead the SEC in rushing.
2003 (Sophomore): A starter in 12 of the Tide's 13 games, JB played a total of 708 snaps at the pivot position. He had a career-high 82 snaps in the Hawaii game and played 79 against Kentucky. He did not start against Tennessee, but still played 61 snaps.
2002 (Freshman): As a back-up to all-conference center Alonzo Ephraim, JB saw spot action in six games. He finished the season with 48 plays and a season-high 22 against Arkansas.
2001 Redshirted
Prep: JB earned All-District and All-City honors as a junior and senior and also participated in track at Tom C. Clark High School. He also played defensive tackle in high school, making 98 tackles with 12 QB sacks. He was a Texas Top-100 player.
Personal: The son of Susan and Bennett Closner, JB's full first name is Jon Bennett. He has an older brother, Kyle and a younger brother, Myles. Born 8-2-82. He majored in Financial Planning.
