Kenneth did not participate in spring practice while recovering from a pelivc injury sustained late in the season. He had just 17 plays in the Music City Bowl, with one carry (one yard) and two receptions for nine yards. He is expected to be at full strength for Fall practice.
2004 (Sophomore): Patiently waiting his turn, Kenneth burst into the spotlight when he ran for 197 yards and one TD in his first career start in the Southern Miss game. He was starting for the injured Ray Hudson and he went on to rush for 100 or more yards in three of his final five starts. He fell just one yard shy (99) against Tennessee as he took over the tailback slot. Darby became the Tide's 11th, 1,000-yard rusher when he finished the season with 1,021 yards on 219 carries (4.8 per carry average), pretty good work for a back who didn't become a starter until the 7th game of the season. In his five games as a starter, Darby averaged 27.8 carries and 124.8 yards per game rushing. He had a career-high 200 yards on 36 carries against Mississippi State and then followed that with 109 yards and one TD on 35 carries against LSU and the nation's 15th ranked rushing defense.
2003 (Freshman): The Tide's third-leading rusher, Kenneth rushed for 185 yards while playing sparingly in 10 games. He missed the Northern Illinois and Arkansas games with a shoulder injury, but did start and play a career-high 37 snaps in the Kentucky contest. He had 34 carries and averaged 5.4 yards per carry, but did not get a TD. He had a career-best 62 yards on just eight carries against Kentucky. He had one carry for 41 yards against Ole Miss, the longest of his career. He also had three pass receptions for four yards. Kenneth won the "Ozzie Newsome Most Improved Freshman" award following spring practice.
2002 Redshirted
Prep: Considered the state's top running back his senior year, Darby rushed for 4,674 yards during his prep career. He had 1,591 yards and 20 touchdowns as a senior. He also had 2,367 all-purpose yards and 24 TDs. As an outside linebacker, Darby had 77 tackles his senior campaign, giving him 281 tackles in his career. He was a SuperPrep All-America and rated the No. 36 running back in the nation. PrepStar rated him the No. 9 running back in the Southeast.
