USA Track and Field announced recently that University of Alabama head men’s track and field coach Harvey Glance will serve as an assistant coach for the 2003 U.S. World Championship team.
“This is the next biggest honor besides the Olympics,” said an elated Glance. “I’m extremely honored to know that my peers think this highly of me and my coaching ability.”
Glance is no stranger to the World Championships setting as he claimed a gold medal at the 1987 World Championships in the 400m relay; however he has never been on the coaching end in the championships.
The 2003 World Championships will be held in Paris, France. The athletes competing will be the top four finishers from each event at the 2003 USATF Championships.
Glance’s selection came on the heels of the 2002 USATF Championships where former Alabama long jump national champion Miguel Pate placed second in the long jump and former three-time hurdling national champion Ron Bramlett finished fifth in the 110m hurdles.
