While their careers at the University of Alabama are finished, former Crimson Tide track All-Americans and national champions Miguel Pate and Ron Bramlett continued their run of success with impressive showings at the 2002 USA Outdoor Championships.
Pate posted a second place finish in the long jump with a mark of 27’08.75”, while former two-time 110m hurdle national champion Ron Bramlett posted a fifth place finish in the 110m hurdles event. Bramlett posted three fifth place finishes in the meet, with his fastest time, 13.46, coming in the semi-finals of the event.
Pate improved his distance by four inches over his jump of 27’04.75” at the 2001 USATF Championships, where he also finished second. Bramlett also improved on his previous year’s finish, as he placed eighth at the 2001 USATF Championships
Elsewhere for the Tide, the program has announced the signing of two athletes for the 2002-2003 season.
Peter Etoot, from Nakuru, Kenya, has a background in distance races competing primarily in the 800 and 1,500m races. He set his school and district records in both events while being named the school’s male athlete of the year four times.
Alabama also signed Birmingham native, Blair Davis who will run distances for the Crimson Tide. Davis helped lead Mountain Brook High School to two straight state championships while being named all-state for the 2001 and 2002 seasons.
