After four days of competition at home for the one time this season, the No. 3 ranked (Trackwire.com) University of Alabama men’s track and field team traveled to the prestigious Stanford Invitational and made some lasting impressions.
All-Americans David Kimani and Ron Bramlett made the most noise for the Tide as they both posted fifth fastest times in the world in their respective events.
Kimani posted a time of 3:39.35 in the 1,500m run which not only ranks fifth fastest in the world but is a NCAA automatic qualifying mark and is the second fastest time in school history. He owns the fastest time at 3:38.74.
In the preliminary heat of the 110m hurdles, Bramlett ran a time of 13.41 which at the time was fifth in the world. However, he beat that time by .02 seconds in the finals of the event to capture the second fastest time in school history. It was also a personal best for Bramlett.
Bramlett also ran the seventh fastest time in the Southeastern Conference this season in the 100m dash with a time of 13.55 in the preliminaries. He finished fifth in the final with a time of 10.59.
In the 3000m steeplechase, Todd Fayant ran the 10th fastest time in school history with a time of 9:03.88, placing eighth in his heat. Peter Kiprono recorded a time of 29:17.01 in the 10k which is a provisional NCAA qualifying mark and is also the third fastest time in school history.
Brian Rohrer’s pole vault of 16’08.75” was a personal best and also ranks sixth in the school’s all-time pole vault marks.
The Tide will take the next week off from competition and will then jump back into action April 12-13 at the Sun Angel Invite in Tempe, Arizona.
